What a wonderful surprise. First to see fluffy snow falling then continue and stick. Who would have thought we could get so much of the white stuff in the land where there are no snow ploughs, salt for the walk ways , shovels or windshield scrapers for all that snow and ice. We ended up using table salt to make the walkways safe.
It was all wonderful and fun till you had to go out in it. The snow was so deep and slushy in the church parking lot that when I got out of the car and into it; the melted undersnow got into my shoes yikes.
No one who had grown up in Vegas could remember it ever being this heavy and sticking. The kids had fun and even got a day off school out of it.
Every year when the first big chill and winter storm sets in, I am reminded of how blessed we are to have the incredible comforts that we do such as:
- Hot & Cold running water. on demand.
- Food Storage came to my mind with our snow storm, Nessies', Kellee and Kamaile's snow and ice storm. I-15 was closed at the state line and the Cajon pass. These are main connecting truck routes.
- Heated dwelling. Even at 65 degrees you're still toasty compared to the outside.
- Indoor Plumbing
- Indoor Kitchen with all the amenities
- Indoor Laundry.
- Light and Power
- Global communication: the world can hear the Prophet(s) instantly, can read what our leaders have to say in most languages.
- We can reach our family and friends whenever we want.
- We have Churches and Temples to attend and work in.
- We have drive by fast foods outlets, [love em] packaged foods of every kind from every country at our fingertips, Drinks, desserts, Milk, Cheese...it is just mind boggling when we take just a moment to REMEMBER our abundance. I think the most mind boggling realization is that we are not personally producing these products & for a nominal fee we can have use of them. Incredible.
I am grateful for all those subcontractors that grow, produce-sew-build, harvest-slaughter-cook/bake, package & transport everything we use.
- we have orange, apple, grape, cranberry, pomegranate juices when we want w/o growing an orchard or vineyard.
- we get eggs cheap w/o keeping chickens in our backyard or cleaning up their poop.
- we get to have a great farm breakfast w/o raising chickens, pigs, or growing our own acres of wheat to grind up everyday to make bread.
- we don't have to raise and slaughter the animals for food and clean up their poop. All we need do is get in our car--go to the store-[less than a mile away] choose what we want and there we go.
- hot showers, hot showers, hot showers...AND the list goes on and on.
- We have so much.
