How Big Does Your Farm Have to Be to be self-sufficient?

NOT THIS BIG!!!... More like this.... what you put away in your homes' nooks and crannie is like having a mini silo of food or whatever you think will fill your families bellies when the market shelves are empty. And your babies are hungry.

It's ver much like the Word of Wisdom. It is obtainable for all at whatever point we are at. Food Storage is a evidence of our willingness to obey w/o seeing the need. Like Noah. What grief he took for building that ark. But he did it anyway. And very much like the Passover. The Isrealites didn't understand the command to paint the door way with the blood of the lamb but those that did had their children live.

It's a Really Good Thing that Father is in charge and has provided another way besides individual farms to be self sufficient. And it is in a way that matches the times we are living in. There are so many great things to make your food storage an everyday affair. Not like when we were growing up. My parents were obedient we bought a whole 1/2 a garage full of foodstorage but didn't know how to incorporate into our daily part hawaiian style diet. So much of it expired and that which we did use was very unpalatable. I think things have changed so much if it's sitting somewhere unused and not in your daily menue. A room of food that you aren't used to or don't know how to use IS the MOST expensive food you will ever buy so here's a link to the Foodstorage Diva. http://foodstoragediva.blogspot.com/ . She and her family do the pantry style storage. They eat what they store and make for others right from their shelves. Malia has a tutorial for those of us who need to know how to make ww bread. She makes the best tortillas too. Check it out. She has also taken up couponing and see the results. She's a great useful freebie diva too.

Here's a great example of doing something because the Prophet said to even when there was no bombing in site.

My Grandpa Alfred Apaka joined the church when he was already married and a child or two. But when he heard the Prophet say get your food storage and all other needful things ...he went right to it. My Mom told me that their basement looked like a grocery store. A few weeks later Pearl Harbor was bombed. This saved them from much hardship. When Gram pa was in Oahu a truckload of men came to take the all the food storage that the family had. The angry men said that Grand Pa must have been in on the war and it was unfair. Of course that wasn't true. All the members heard the same thing. My Grand Ma Emma was an avid food storage diva. She had an entire room for her food storage that she put up herself from her garden and animals. She was a single mom, elderly but always had food in abundance by the labor of her own hands.

My great gran aunty TuTu stood them off with a German Luger. She was a tiny feisty lady, hanai daughter to Queen Liliuokalani ...Tutu stood firm that they were not to take the families food supply. I know that Heavenly Father protected our family and my dear little aunty. Proof that our Father protects & blesses us through our obedience to correct principles even when it dosen't make sense or you think you don't have the ability.

Because they were obedient they were able to help others. When the war broke out certain foods and commodities were rationed. Those in charge of rationing stamp books wanted to refuse my family the food because they had food storage. My grand pa was firm telling them that they would be giving they're portion to a large family that needed to more food. Another way they helped other was to use their rations to help a young lady get the needed butter and flour for her wedding. My Grand mother was a great gardener and cook. She bartered many things with their neighbors. Smoked ham for sausage, Breads for other goods.

Heres a link for the mini gardener in you. You don't need an acre or two of land; just a space on your counter to get fresh protein, grain or veggie. www.wheatgrasskits.com/sprouting/deluxe
it looks like a good site.

Enjoy.
